python3_15: mirror the build-time-only packages so python 3.14 can go
PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_15" already resolved, but dev-lang/python:3.14 stayed
installed as an interpreter: 85 installed packages run Python only at build
time and stopped at 3.14. That list covers glibc, gcc, coreutils, the
llvm-runtimes, the Mozilla trio and most of the desktop/media stack.
Before any edit, each package was checked against what 3.15 removed (sre_*,
typing.ByteString, CGIHTTPRequestHandler, co_lnotab, re.Scanner capturing
groups, ...) in the scripts its build runs, and against the 3.15 support of
its python deps. Many were also built or exercised under 3.15:
- full builds: libvirt (1578/1578, meson test clean), dbus (build + install),
fontconfig, libepoxy, libglvnd, graphene, libdisplay-info,
blas-lapack-aux-wrapper
- test suites: krb5 pytests, automake, cmark, swtpm
- generators: glibc gen-as-const and gen-libm-test, icu and libwacom
(byte-identical to 3.14)
- Mirror 83 ::gentoo ebuilds at the same version with python3_15 added, and
nothing else. That is 82 installed packages, plus llvm-runtimes/libclc-22.1.8,
which dev-util/mesa_clc pins with =libclc-22*. Every diverging axis carries a
BENTOO-DIVERGENCE tag.
- www-client/firefox (mirror) and www-client/librewolf apply Mozilla's fix for
bmo#2083543 (mozilla-firefox/firefox 9a1535227ce2, fixed in 161). The test
manifest parser builds an re.Scanner with capturing groups, which 3.15
rejects. The build never hits this; src_test does. Verified on 3.15.2.
- eclass/kernel-build.eclass: fork of ::gentoo's with python3_15. The eclass
sets PYTHON_COMPAT before inheriting python-any-r1, so sys-kernel/bentoo-kernel
cannot widen it from the ebuild. Only this overlay's ebuilds see the fork.
- x11-drivers/xf86-video-qxl: python3_15 added.
- check-openrc-coverage.sh: allowlist polkit and bluez's obex (D-Bus
activated), and pipewire and wireplumber. Their system units exist only with
USE=system-service, which ::gentoo ties to systemd.
- check-autoupdate-damage.sh: strip the "@label" before looking for a
re-enabled record's ebuild. dev-build/automake@1.19 was the first labelled
record ever re-enabled, and the hook looked for dev-build/automake@1.19/.
- .autoupdate: 78 new probed records and 5 re-enabled ones. gcc@16, glibc,
firefox and graphite2 are held, because a PV bump alone cannot follow a
per-version ::gentoo patchset or a hand-set snapshot base.
Checked: with dev-lang/python:3.14 masked, emerge -pvuDN --with-bdeps=y
--changed-deps=y @world, with the mirrors selected from ::bentoo, resolves with
exit 0 (504 packages) and pulls in neither 3.13 nor 3.14. gentoo-parity.sh
adds no ALIGN or UNDOCUMENTED row. check-openrc-coverage.sh and
autoupdate --lint pass. pkgcheck finds nothing new except dev-python/lit
lacking 3.15, which is reachable only through USE=test.
